Tata Somba houses of the Atacora

Two-storey earthen fortress houses of the Otammari people, around Boukoumbé and Natitingou. Animals live on the ground floor, the roof terrace is used to dry crops, and granaries crown the whole. Some families welcome visitors: go with a local guide. **Safety (October 2026)**: the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travel to central Atacora (Natitingou, Boukoumbé, Tanguiéta) except for essential reasons. Check official advice before any plans.
