Nature

Pendjari National Park

In the north-west, one of West Africa's last great wildlife reserves: elephants, buffalo, hippos, antelopes and lions. It is part of the W-Arly-Pendjari complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. The dry season, roughly December to May, is best for wildlife. **Safety (October 2026)**: the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to the Pendjari and W parks and their surroundings (terrorist threat; two tourists kidnapped in 2019). Check official advice before any plans.
